"Times Like These" is the second single released from the Foo Fighters' fourth album One by One. It was released on two main discs in 2003. It is in 4/4 time but includes 7/4 irregular time signature timing in the intro. The lyric "I'm a new day rising" is a reference to an album by Hüsker Dü, one of Dave Grohl's favourite groups. After the album version ended its run on the charts, an acoustic version of the song was released, and had some success on pop and AC radio.
The song was used by George W. Bush for his 2004 re-election campaign. When Dave Grohl found out about it, it prompted him and the rest of the band to get more politically active, and they helped John Kerry's campaign as a result.blank">http://www.mtv.com/chooseorlose/headlines/news.jhtml?id=1492201 It was featured in the trailer for the film _The Benchwarmers, the soundtrack for American Wedding, and SPEED Channel's season-ending montage for its coverage of the 2006 Formula One Season and also throughout WWE's Tribute To The Troops 2007 program. The acoustic version of the song has been used at the end of an episode of the drama television series Jericho and in an episode of One Tree Hill, in which the main characters graduate from high school. US pop and R&B singer JoJo covered it in Jo Whiley's Radio 1 show Live Lounge.
