Ski Party is a B-movie, directed by Alan Rafkin, and released in 1965 by American International Pictures ("AIP"). Ski Party is part of the 1960s Beach Party film genre: college-age girls in bikinis (and guys in trunks) are trotted out at every opportunity. But almost all of Ski Party is set on the slopes, and not on the sand, and AIP mainstay Annette Funicello only has a tiny role. Ski Party was intended for mid-teen audiences in the drive-in theater circuit and this film is delivered with a wink: co-star Dwayne Hickman addresses the camera, as he did in his role as TV's "Dobie Gillis." But in Ski Party, Hickman and co-star Frankie Avalon mock the thinness of the plot by estimating the average audience member to be 15 years old, and make an unflattering comparison to Some Like It Hot.
On a college ski weekend, Todd and Craig pretend to be Jane and Nora, a pair of English girls. Their reasons? To meet girls, and to learn to ski. Along the way, Lesley Gore shows up on the bus to sing "Sunshine, Lollipops, and Rainbows", and James Brown and the Fabulous Flames appear at the lodge to sing "I Feel Good".
