Point Pleasant (TV series) (Wikipedia.org)

Point Pleasant was a television series that first aired on the Fox Network in January 2005. It was cancelled in March 2005 due to poor ratings.

Point Pleasant boasted many of the same crew behind the scenes as Fox's other shortly withdrawn series, Tru Calling. In fact, Point Pleasant received the greenlight just three days after production ceased on Tru Calling. 13 episodes were filmed, but due to poor ratings, Fox only aired episodes 1-8 in the United States. Episodes 9-11 aired in Sweden, all episodes appeared in New Zealand on back to back weekdays in mid 2007, and the last two episodes are included on the DVD release.

Much of the music featured in the series was replaced for the DVD release due to licensing issues.

The show's executive producer was Marti Noxon, who worked closely with Joss Whedon for several seasons on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. For this reason, Point Pleasant initially drew in many of that show's fans, but Point Pleasant had a distinct "soapy" flavor, more in the vein of shows like Melrose Place or The O.C. than Buffy. The resulting drop in viewership eventually led to the show's cancellation. Advocates of the show, however, point to its gothic tone, its tempered, surprisingly subtle use of special effects, and the potential of the overall plotline as solid reasons the show should have stayed on the air. The plots were surprisingly sophisticated, and emphasized humanity's cruelty to one another, as primal reasons for evil.

The sleepy town of Point Pleasant, New Jersey receives a new citizen after she is rescued from the ocean. Christina Nickson never knew her mother and is estranged from her father, and now finds herself in the residence of an unassuming family who have recently lost a daughter. What they don't know about Christina is something she doesn't know herself: she is the daughter of Satan. Baffled by the way strange things happen when she gets upset, Christina tries to live as normal a life as possible. When she discovers clues to her mother's identity in Point Pleasant she decides to stick around, unknowingly fulfilling a prophecy that the great war between heaven and hell will begin in the town. The war is inexorably on its way, but when it will start and what side Christina will choose when it does remain shrouded in doubt. Written by rmlohner

The peaceful existence the small seaside community of Point Pleasant, New Jersey changes forever when a young teenage girl, named Christina Nickson (Elisabeth Harnois), is rescued from the ocean by local lifeguard Jesse Parker (Sam Page) and brought to the home of local doctor Ben Kramer (Richard Burgi). The Kramers, including Ben's wife Meg (Susan Walters) and daughter Judy (Aubrey Dollar), take an instant liking to Christina and invite her to stay with them as she searches for clues to her past and attempts to find her mother; a Point Pleasant native whom Christina never knew. Christina is unaware of the profound effect she has on the town's inhabitants; her presence awakens repressed feelings, unlocks secret desires and heightens emotions. Tensions flare between Jesse, who finds himself inexplicably drawn to Christina, and his best friend Terry (Brent Weber), who secretly lusts after Jesse's possessive girlfriend Paula (Cameron Richardson). Paula's devious, hot-to-trot mother Amber (Dina Meyer) attempts to rekindle her relationship with the good Dr. Kramer. Also, long-buried secrets kept by Jesse's parents, the domineering and hot-tempered police captain Logan (Alex Carter) and the God-fearing Sarah (Clare Carey), begin to surface, especially when the mysterious and charismatic Lucus Boyd (Grant Show) arrives and insinuates himself into Christina's new life.
