The National Film Board of Canada (usually National Film Board or NFB) is Canada's public film producer and distributor. An agency of the Government of Canada, the NFB produces and distributes socially relevant films that inform Canadians and explore global issues. Its name in French is Office national du film du Canada or ONF. The NFB is best known for its documentaries and animated short films, many of which have won Genie and Academy Awards. In total, the NFB has produced over 12,000 productions which have won over 5000 awards. The NFB reports to the Parliament of Canada through the Minister of Canadian Heritage. It has French and English production branches.
