Martina Gedeck (born 14 September 1961 in Munich) is a German actress. She came to international fame as the main character in the German film Mostly Martha and has won numerous awards, including the Deutscher Filmpreis (German film award) in both 1997 and 2002.
Lived together with the actor Ulrich Wildgruber until his suicide in 1999
Studied German and history at the Free University of Berlin.
Member of jury at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2003
Her character in Bella Martha (2001) is played by Catherine Zeta-Jones in the US remake.
Had her first TV appearance on "Sendung mit der Maus, Die" (1971) at the age of 11.

Although playing the leading female character in Leben der Anderen, Das (2006), director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck didn't invite her to join the team at the 79th Annual Academy Awards, The (2007) (TV) ceremony. Although finally being granted a ticket by the Academy shortly before the show, she refused to fly to Los Angeles (February 2007).
Lives in an apartment in Berlin's Dahlem district.
Born to businessman Karl-Heinz Gedeck and his wife Helga, a secretary, she is the eldest of three daughters.
