Lithium (Nirvana song) (Wikipedia.org)

"Lithium" is a song by the grunge band Nirvana. It originally appeared on and was the third single from their breakthrough album Nevermind. The lyrics were written by Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain.

The name of the song is often attributed to the usage of lithium salts as mood stabilizers. Because of this the lyrics are often interpreted as describing bipolar disorder. Cobain is said to have had bipolar disorder, which may have led to the writing of the song "Lithium". Still, there is much disagreement about the exact meaning and interpretation of it.

In the Nevermind press kit, Cobain said this about the song: "People who are secluded for so long go insane, and as a last resort they often use religion to keep alive. In the song, the guy's lost his girl and his friends and he's brooding. He's decided to find God before he kills himself. It's hard for me to understand the need for a vice like that, but I can appreciate it too. People need vices."

Lithium pharmacology (Wikipedia.org)

Lithium in pharmacology refers to use of the lithium ion, Li + , as a drug. A number of chemical salts of lithium are used medically as a mood stabilizing drug, primarily in the treatment of bipolar disorder, where they have a role in the treatment of depression and particularly of mania, both acutely and in the long term. As a mood stabilizer, lithium is probably more effective in preventing mania than depression, and may reduce the risk of suicide. In depression alone (unipolar disorder) lithium can be used to augment other antidepressants. Lithium carbonate (Li 2 CO 3 ), sold under several trade names, is the most commonly prescribed, whilst the citrate salt lithium citrate (Li 3 C 6 H 5 O 7 ), the sulfate salt lithium sulfate (Li 2 SO 4 ), aspartate and the orotate salt lithium orotate are alternatives.

Upon ingestion, lithium becomes widely distributed in the central nervous system and interacts with a number of neurotransmitters and receptors, decreasing norepinephrine release and increasing serotonin synthesis.

Lithium (Evanescence song) (Wikipedia.org)

"Lithium" is the second single from Evanescence's second studio album The Open Door.

Originally to be released in the UK on December 4, 2006, new dates were later set.

Lithium (Ailyn song) (Wikipedia.org)

"Lithium" is the first and only single from Ailyn's second compilation album 'Yin ~Dark Side~'. Released digitally, it was downloadable through her website for free. The original version is by Evanescence.

Lithium 24 (Wikipedia.org)

Lithium 24 is a 1990s grunge and alternative rock radio station that debuted on Sirius Satellite Radio channel 24 and Dish Network channel 6024 in the U.S. on February 14, 2007, moving Sirius Disorder to channel 32 and later to channel 70. Sirius channel 24 is now listed as "Lithium" on Sirius radios and the Sirius website. It takes its name from the Nirvana song, "Lithium."

While the primary focus is grunge and alternative rock, the station also plays bands from the late '90s wave of alternative metal, such as Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails, and Limp Bizkit.
