Light Up The Sky is a song from American rock band Van Halen's 1979 album Van Halen II. Although it was never released as a single, drummer Alex Van Halen tried to persuade both his bandmates and record label to release it as a single. An early incarnation of the song known as Light In The Sky was recorded for several of the demos Van Halen recorded prior to being signed to a record label. The song was used to open every show on the "II: World Vacation" tour, and played a few times on their 1980 "World Invasion" tour.
"Light Up the Sky" is the first single from Yellowcard's album Paper Walls. The live acoustic version was first heard on March 30th at their concert at the Troubador in West Hollywood, CA. It was then played electric in later shows. On May 15th the fully mixed album version was put on their Myspace page. It was released on iTunes on June 5, 2007 and it was the most added single to US Alternative/Modern Rock radio stations for the week ending June 8, 2007
The video premiered in Yahoo! Music on July 10th. It was directed by Lisa Mann.
The song was used to promote the new season of Heroes in August 2007.
The song was used in the opening sequence of VH1's Best Week Ever on September 21, 2007.
The song appeared in the fifth Season Premiere of One Tree Hill in January 2008.
The song debuted on the adult top 40 chart at #38, peaked at #32, and is now at position #36.
