"Killing Me Softly with His Song" is a 1971 song composed by Charles Fox and Norman Gimbel. The song was inspired by a poem by Lori Lieberman, "Killing Me Softly with His Blues", which she wrote after seeing a then-unknown Don McLean perform the song "Empty Chairs" live. Don McLean does not wear his glasses when performing, thus the line "he looked right through me as if I wasn't there"
Killing Me Softly is an album by Roberta Flack. The song "Killing Me Softly with His Song" won the 1974 Grammy Award for best record.
