John Lee (astronomer) (Wikipedia.org)

John Lee LL.D (28 April 1783-25 February 1866), born John Fiott, was an English philanthropist, astronomer, mathematician, antiquarian and barrister.

He was the eldest son of John Fiott and Harriet Lee. His father was involved in the family counting house business and was a failed East India merchant. He was orphaned when young and was brought up by his maternal uncle, William Lee Antonie.

Lee read Mathematics at St John's College, Cambridge between 1802 and 1806, graduating fifth wrangler in his year. He was elected a fellow in 1808. Following his studies from 1807-1815 he travelled extensively in the middle east and Europe as a travelling bachelor. During this time he gained an interest in antiquities.

In 1833 Lee married Cecilia Rutter (23 July 1782-1 April 1854). She died in 1854 and was buried in the graveyard of Hartwell Church.

In 1855, he married again, this time to Louisa Catherine Heath.

Lee died on 25 February 1866 at Hartwell House. An obituary was published in volume 27 of the monthly notices of the Royal Astronomical Society the following year.

John Lee (pathologist) (Wikipedia.org)

John Andre Lee is an English consultant histopathologist at Rotherham General Hospital and clinical professor of pathology at Hull York Medical School. Lee gained his medical degree, a BSc. and a Ph.D. in physiology at University College London. He is most notable to the wider public as co-presenter (with Gunther von Hagens) of Anatomy for Beginners (screened in the UK on Channel 4 in 2005), Autopsy: Life and Death (Channel 4, 2006) and Autopsy: Emergency Room (Channel 4, 2007).

In the first series, various aspects human anatomy were explored, with von Hagens dissecting cadavers to illustrate certain points. In the later series particular diseases were highlighted and explained, again with dissections of cadavers, allowing direct observation of the symptoms in humans.

During these programmes, Lee provided the background information about, and elucidation regarding, von Hagens' ongoing dissections. In essence, he was used to 'cut away' whilst the less telegenic parts of the dissection proceeded. This background information was usually shown on a television monitor and ensured that the audience could follow the doctors as they worked. Further anatomical and medical information was demonstrated on live models (naked persons with the relevant internal organs drawn and/or projected on to their body).
