Joe Williams (born December 12, 1918 in Cordele, Georgia; died March 29, 1999 in Las Vegas, Nevada) was a well-known jazz vocalist, and an elegant and sophisticated baritone singing a mixture of blues, ballads, popular songs, and jazz standards.
Joe Williams (September 22, 1965 - ), also known as "Joedelta", is best known for founding Delta Tao Software. He designed and produced several popular applications and games for Macintosh, including Spaceward Ho!, Eric's Ultimate Solitaire, Clan Lord, Color Dark Castle and the paint program Color MacCheese.
Williams was born James Joseph Williams II in Miami, Oklahoma. He graduated from Delta Junction High School in 1983, and was an undergraduate at Caltech. Before becoming a software developer, he was a professional poker player.
Dr. Joe Williams is a Cook Islands politician. He was briefly Prime Minister of the Cook Islands in 1999. Williams trained as a doctor, and has been primarily resident in Auckland, New Zealand.
Williams was elected to the Cook Islands parliament as an "overseas MP", representing Cook Islanders living abroad (mostly in New Zealand). He was a member of the Cook Islands Party, but opposed the premiership of Geoffrey Henry, the party's leader. Many members of the Cook Islands Party opposed its coalition agreement with the New Alliance Party, and after several defections, Henry lost control to the dissidents and resigned. In July 1999, Williams was narrowly confirmed as the new Prime Minister. This prompted considerable anger in some quarters, primarily because Williams mostly lived outside the islands. In October, the New Alliance Party left the governing coalition, depriving the government of its majority. Williams attempted to form a new government, but the following month, he lost a vote of no confidence to the opposition Democratic Alliance Party and the New Alliance Party. Terepai Maoate became the new Prime Minister.
In 2002, Williams became involved in a controversy regarding a proposed medical trial in the Cook Islands. The trial, which involved injecting pig cells into humans as a means of fighting diabetes, was banned in New Zealand, and therefore moved to the Cook Islands, where regulations were not as strict. Williams was a strong supporter of the proposal, believing that it would bring benefits to the Cook Islands' economy, but the scheme was highly controversial. Later, Williams was nominated by the Cook Islands to head the World Health Organisation, although he was not successful.
Williams later attempted to start a political career in New Zealand, standing as a candidate for the New Zealand First party in the 2005 parliamentary elections. He was unsuccessful.
Joe Williams is a four-time U.S. National Freestyle Champion and four-time World Team member (1999, 2001, 2002, 2003). He won gold medals at 163 pounds at the 2003 World Cup and Pan American Games. The 2001 and 2002 Freestyle Athlete of the Year, Williams placed third at the 2001 World Championships and fourth at the 1999 World Championships. Due to unfortunate circumstances, the U.S. team did not participate in the 2002 World Championships. He also won titles at the Pan American Games, and Manitoba and Sunkist Opens in 1999.
A three-time NCAA Champion and two-time Big Ten Champion, Williams became Iowa's 14th four-time all-American in 1998. He was named Outstanding Wrestler of the 1998 NCAA Championships, where he ended his collegiate career on a 39-match winning streak. In the Iowa record books, Williams is tied for first in the season record category with the 34-0 mark he earned in 1998. He also ranks eighth in career winning percentage with .935 (129-9) and 10th in career wins (129) at Iowa. Williams became the second wrestler in Midlands Open history to win five titles (1993-2001).
Williams attended Mount Carmel High School (Chicago) and later earned a B.A. in 1998 from the University of Iowa in sociology and communication studies. He and his wife, Kim, have a son, Kaleb.
Joe Williams (born 4 September 1983 in Cowra, New South Wales), an Indigenous Australian, is a professional rugby league player for the Penrith Panthers in the National Rugby League competition. His position of choice is halfback.
In September 2007, Williams signed a one-year contract to play with the Penrith Panthers for the 2008 season after initially agreeing to a contract with French side, Toulouse Olympique.
