Joe King was a fictional character in a comic strip in the UK comic The Beano. It first appeared in The Beano in issue 2783, dated 18 November 1995. His name was a pun on "Joking."

Joe wore a big red cap with a wavy bit going up, and would tell jokes sent in by Beano readers, who would originally win a Dennis the Menace cycle helmet if their joke were published. Later on came Joe's Joke Corner which would occupy a corner of the page, again featuring jokes from Beano readers, as did Anyone Got Any Jokes?, also Joe King's Top 40 Joke Box. He appears briefly in the Beano Christmas Special 2007 along with all the Beano stars.

Joe King (born May 25, 1980) is the rhythm guitarist, occasional vocalist, and co-founder of Colorado-based piano rock band The Fray. King started the band with vocalist/pianist Isaac Slade in 2002. King and Slade had been schoolmates who decided to start a band after meeting each other in a record store. Before forming The Fray, King had previously been in bands of his own, Spruce, and Fancy's Show Box. He co-wrote every song except one ("Hundred") on the band's first album How to Save a Life, and provided lead vocals on the song "Heaven Forbid", which he wrote for his sister. He also sings "Uncertainty" and "Dixie" and a new song, which was thought to be titled "Fail", but has yet to be officially named. These three songs will possibly be on The Fray's next album. King has a wife named Julie, who is a nurse, and has 2 daughters, Elise and Ava. Joe was in school while he worked as an auto damage appraiser before The Fray was formed. His wife works at Exempla Lutheran in Wheatridge, Colorado.

According to an interview with the band's touring bassist, Jimmy Stofer, Joe King was only able to play eight different notes on his guitar during the recording of How To Save A Life. He is the oldest member of the band, being 27, whereas the others are 26, 23 and 22.

He was born in Austin, Texas as Joseph Sayer King and acted in 211 films from 1912 to 1946. He appeared in his later years mainly in minor, uncredited roles. He directed two films, both in 1916 and wrote one script in 1915. Joe King was married to actress Hazel Buckham and he died in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, California.
