Jimmy Garrison (March 3, 1933 - April 7, 1976) was an American jazz double bassist best known for his long association with John Coltrane from 1961 - 1967. He formally joined Coltrane's quartet in 1962 as a replacement for Reggie Workman and appears on many Coltrane recordings, including A Love Supreme. During live performances of music by John Coltrane's group, the leader would often provide Garrison with time and space for an unaccompanied improvised solo (sometimes as the prelude to a song before the other musicians joined in).

Garrison also had a long association with Ornette Coleman, first recording with him on Art of the Improvisers. He and drummer Elvin Jones have been credited with eliciting more forceful playing than usual from Coleman on the albums New York is Now and Love Call.

Outside of the Coltrane and Coleman ensembles, Jimmy Garrison performed with jazz artists such as Kenny Dorham, Philly Joe Jones, Curtis Fuller, Benny Golson, Lennie Tristano, Lee Konitz, Jackie McLean, Pharoah Sanders, and Tony Scott, among others. After Coltrane's death, Garrison worked with Hampton Hawes, Archie Shepp, and groups led by Elvin Jones.

Jimmy Garrison's son Matthew Garrison is also a bass player, playing mainly bass guitar. Jimmy Bower is an American sludge/heavy metal guitarist and drummer who has played with numerous bands, most notably Eyehategod, Crowbar, Down, The Mystick Krewe of Clearlight, Debris Inc. and Superjoint Ritual.

Jimmy Bower is known in some circles as the "Godfather of Southern Metal" for his involvement in the New Orleans Metal and Hardcore scene, as well as being a founding member of legendary Sludgecore band Eyehategod, which is an obvious influence on many of the Hardcore and Heavy Metal bands that later emerged from the South, including Acid Bath, Soilent Green, and Abandoned at Birth. Jimmy is also a founding member of Down and Superjoint Ritual, along with former Pantera vocalist Philip Anselmo. While he started off drumming in the 80's New Orleans hardcore band Shell Shock, Jimmy has also been a large part in the histories of bands such as Corrosion of Conformity and Crowbar as a touring drummer.

A crowbar, pry bar, or prybar, more informally a jimmy, jimmy bar , or jemmy (British Isles), is a tool consisting of a metal bar with a single curved end and flattened points, often with a small fissure on one or both ends for removing nails. In the British Isles, "crowbar" may be used loosely for this tool, but is more commonly used to mean a larger straight tool (see spud bar). The term "jemmy" or "jimmy" most often refers to the tool when used for burglary.

It is used as a lever to either force apart two objects or to remove nails. Crowbars are commonly used to open nailed wooden boxes. Another common use for larger crowbars is general demolition: for removing nails, prying apart boards, and generally smashing things.

Crowbars can be used as any of the three lever classes but the curved end is usually used as a first-class lever, and the flat end as a 2nd class lever.

"Jimmy" is the second single from experimental electronica rap artist M.I.A.'s second album Kala (2007), and her first single from the album in Japan. The song was written and produced by Maya Arulpragasam and Switch and released in late July, 2007.

"Jimmy" is a cover of the song "Jimmy Jimmy Jimmy Aaja" sung by Parvati Khan in Hindi from the 1982 Bollywood movie Disco Dancer, written by Bappi Lahiri. "Jimmy" features different orchestration and beats from the previous version, and original English lyrics written by Arulpragasam. M.I.A. performed the track on BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend in 2007.

The single was released in the UK on October 1 in CD single, 7" and 12" formats. In February 2008 the single began to gain traction on the US dance charts. Currently it sits at #28 in its fifth week on the chart.
