Jesse Eden Metcalfe (born December 9, 1978) is an American actor, most known for his role on Desperate Housewives as John Rowland. He is also notable for his portrayal of Miguel Lopez-Fitzgerald on the soap opera Passions.

Jesse Metcalfe was born in California and grew up in Waterford, Connecticut. He is a graduate of the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. He has appeared in the student films "Jesus and Tequila" and "Phasmogoria". Metcalfe was cast for his role on "Passions" (1999) when he attended an open audition in New York City. Metcalfe's hobbies include sculpting, basketball, piano and golf.

Jesse Eden Metcalfe was born on the 9th of December 1978 in Carmel Valley, North California to parents Scott and Nancy Metcalfe. It wasn't too long after Jesse was born that his mother, Nancy decided to separate from his dad. When Jesse was two years old, he and his mother moved to Waterford, Connecticut to live with his step dad. While still studying in school, Jesse went to work for his step dad's landscaping business and earned US$9 an hour. It was there that Jesse first knew how to mow lawns, weed-whack, and plant flowers. Not too long later, Jesse started modeling part-time during his sophomore year in high school for extra cash. He also did some commercial and print work for magazines like Seventeen and YM. In school, Jesse also played basketball. He was a punk music fan and he would even dye his hair different colors to match his concert shirts. Jesse made his own dream come true by going to New York University, a place he was dreaming about to study film and television. When he was young, Jesse says that his father would always take him to the movies. He didn't want to be an actor naturally as becoming a film maker was his first ambition. The first movie that he saw which landed a huge impact on him was The Breakfast Club. While he was in New York University, acting classes was compulsory and it was there that he caught the acting bug. Jesse eventually went to an open audition organized by his modeling agency, for a daytime TV show called Passions and needless to say, he got the part. Jesse then left university in his junior year and moved to lose Angeles to play Miguel Lopez-Fitzgerald. Jesse continued playing the role for five years before deciding to leave the daytime soap. The 5' 11" tall actor then auditioned for the role as the shirtless landscaper, D.J. in the teen series The O.C. starring Mischa Barton, Benjamin McKenzie, Rachel Bilson and Adam Brody. Unfortunately, casting directors at The O.C. decided to go with fellow actor Nicholas Gonzales for the part and Jesse lost. But as luck would have it, a TV show called Desperate Housewives came up and Jesse was called to audition for the part. He auditioned but again lost the role to another actor named Kyle Searles. It was bad news for Kyle when Eva Longoria said she had no chemistry together so he was dropped and Jesse got the part. Being in Desperate Housewives definitely gave Jesse a shot at stardom. Playing the role of John Rowland, the buff and shirtless gardener for Gabrielle Solis who is played by Eva Longoria, certainly got him noticed. Jesse picked up the Breakout Male award at the 2005 Teen Choice Awards for his role. But as everyone would have guessed, Jesse's part didn't last too long in the show. The producers were going another direction and they had to drop Jesse but even so, Jesse still made a few guest stars along the way. Needless to say, when fans including female and male audiences knew that Jesse's role was leaving, they were obviously disappointed. The role as John Rowland also gave him a mixed identity as older fans of the show has actually offered him to trim hedges in their house. The star who comes from an Italian, French and Portuguese descent finally got his first major movie role in John Tucker Must Die playing the lead title starring opposite singer, Ashanti and One Tree Hill actress, Sophia Bush. During his free time, Jesse plays the guitar and sings. He plans to start a band with his friends in the not too distant future. Jesse keeps fit by doing half an hour of cardio everyday, train with weights and play basketball with his friends. Jesse himself says that he doesn't really go clubbing that much because of his busy schedule which often puts him in bed by 9pm. Jesse is a big fan of classic rock and Rolling Stones is his all-time favorite band. Sticky Fingers is also one of his favorite album. Besides that, Jesse says that he is a fan of Led Zeppelin, Neil Young, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Jimi Hendrix, Iggy Pop & Wolfmother. Recently, Jesse bought a house in Hollywood Hills and describes it as a Mediterranean-styled-house. Jesse has actually been living in Los Angeles for eight years even though he still has dreams of settling down in New York City. Jesse wishes to have a career like George Clooney and Johnny Depp's talent in acting. He even has hopes of becoming a director someday. But we're sure he will go further from where he is now as he has done the "horizontal-tango" with Eva Longoria and even wearing a thong in John Tucker Must Die. With the diversity of roles given to him, we're sure he'll be one of Hollywood's Prized Possession in no time at all.
