Jericho is the title of an ITV crime drama series which was broadcast in 2005. It was created and written by Stewart Harcourt. The series starred Robert Lindsay as Detective Inspector Michael Jericho who is loved by the public but is himself embarrassed by his hero status. The series was set in London in 1958.
The series was shown in the United States in 2006 as part of the PBS Mystery! series.
Jericho is an American serial drama produced by CBS Paramount Network Television, with executive producers Jon Turteltaub, Stephen Chbosky and Carol Barbee. The show is broadcast in more than 30 countries.
The first season of the show premiered Wednesday, September 20, 2006 and concluded with a cliffhanger episode on May 9, 2007. Lackluster ratings prompted concern, as the show hit a ratings low in early April. The ratings were down 25% following the nearly three-month hiatus and subsequent return. During its first season, it ranked 48th, with an average of 9.5 million viewers in the United States. Other Wednesday night programs it competed with were Bones, Deal or No Deal, and ABC's comedy block.
Though the producers seemed confident that the program would be picked up for a second season, the series was initially cancelled by CBS in May 2007. However, after a grassroots campaign to revive the series, CBS officially announced on June 6, 2007 that it had purchased seven new episodes of Jericho for broadcast as a midseason replacement. These seven episodes are complete, and were not affected directly by the 2007 Writers Guild of America strike. r=1&oref=slogin" target="_blank">Bill Carter, "TV Shows See Strike as a Second Chance," The New York Times, November 15, 2007
Jericho returned for its second season on February 12, 2008 to mostly favorable reviews but with the lowest numbers the ratings had seen yet. In the early days of January 2008 the first three episodes of the second season leaked on the internet via a DVD screener source. The show's second season has also premiered in Canada on _CTV, mirroring the US broadcast.
In January 2008 the SCI FI Channel announced that it had acquired off-network cable rights to seasons one and two of Jericho from CBS Television Distribution. Jericho made its debut on SCI FI with a four-episode marathon on February 11, and began airing in its regular timeslot on February 18.
The Jericho team were a trio of Allied specialists who operated as intelligence agents and saboteurs behind Nazi lines. Franklin Sheppard, of American Army Intelligence, was their commanding officer and chief planner. Jean-Gaston Andre, of the Free French Air Force, was the team's demolitions and weapons expert. Nicholas Gage, of the British Navy, was a former circus performer (high-wire artist) whose specialty was getting in and out of Nazi installations. Written by Marg Baskin
Episode 1.1 was dedicated to the memory of N'Deaye Ba (aka Inday Ba) who played Martha Sorin. She died on 26 April 2005, shortly after she finished filming for her role in Jericho.
Each episode's title card is accompanied with audio containing only Morse code (dots and dashes, or short and long beeps) which, when translated, provides a short hint (around 3 words) about the episode to come.

When CBS canceled Jericho in May 2007, fans began sending nuts to CBS in reference to the shows final episode, in which the main character referenced the Battle of the Buldge when he answered "NUTS" to a request to surrender. Three weeks later, over 8 million nuts had been shipped to CBS NY and CBS LA offices totaling over 40,000 pounds. Nina Tassler, president of CBS, sent out a memo on 6 June 2007 saying they have ordered seven more episodes to air within the year. They also asked the fans to stop sending nuts...
The Morse code that accompanies the opening credits of each episode is broadcast at 15 words per minute at 1000 Hz frequency.
Due to low ratings the series was canceled in Germany after episode #14 "Heart of Winter" by Pro7.
Was aired in Australia within a day of being aired in the US up until the mid-season break. After the break, Network Ten failed to return the show to air for around 2 months after the US. This delay, combined with lack of advertising and a poor time slot led to Jericho being "shelved" after Episode #1.13 "Black Jack". This is a fate shared by several other cult shows, such as "Battlestar Galactica" (2004).
