Babes in Toyland (re-released in 1948 as March of the Wooden Soldiers by Screen Guild Productions; alternative titles Laurel and Hardy in Toyland, Revenge Is Sweet (the title in Germany), Wooden Soldiers) is a 1934 musical comedy film starring Laurel and Hardy. Based on Victor Herbert's popular 1903 operetta Babes in Toyland, the film was produced by Hal Roach, directed by Charley Rogers and Gus Meins, and released to theatres on November 12, 1934 by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. A Technicolor version was made by Walt Disney in 1961, with many of the same characters, but with an entirely different plot. Years later, Orion Television (now part of MGM) produced a three-hour (with commercials) television musical remake with Drew Barrymore, although her singing voice was dubbed by a vocal double.

Babes in Toyland is a 1961 musical film in Technicolor, directed by Jack Donohue, produced by Walt Disney, and distributed to theatres by Buena Vista Distribution. It stars Ray Bolger (best remembered as the Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz) as Barnaby, Annette Funicello as Mary Contrary, Tommy Sands as Tom Piper, and Ed Wynn as the Toymaker. Annette was one of the original members of the Mickey Mouse Club in the 1950s. Barnaby's henchmen, Gonzorgo and Roderigo, were portrayed by Henry Calvin and Gene Sheldon (Roderigo does not speak or sing) who starred on the Disney Zorro (1957-1959) as Sergeant Demetrio Lopez Garcia and Zorro's mute assistant Bernardo, respectively.

The film was based upon Victor Herbert's popular 1903 operetta Babes in Toyland, which had been filmed in a 1934 black-and-white version by Laurel and Hardy and Hal Roach. The plot, however, bears little resemblance to the 1903 show. The Disney version contains more than twice as many songs as the Laurel and Hardy version, although the lyrics are changed and some of the song tempos drastically altered.

Babes in Toyland is a 1986 television movie directed by Clive Donner which stars Drew Barrymore and Keanu Reeves. It was broadcast on NBC on December 19, 1986 and released on VHS. The European theatrical version was shortened to 94 minutes--this version was released worldwide on VHS, it has not yet been released on DVD.

Tom the Piper's Son is about to marry Mary Quite Contrary. On the eve of their wedding, evil miser Barnaby hires two henchmen to drown Tom and steal Mary's sheep, cared for by Little Bo Peep, thus depriving Mary and the children she lives with of their livelihood, forcing her to marry Barnaby. The sheep are stolen, but Gonzorgo and Roderigo, Barnaby's henchmen, double-cross him by selling Tom to a band of gypsies instead, leaving Tom with the opportunity to escape and make his way with Mary, Bo-Peep, and other Mother Goose characters to Toyland.
